Christmas

We had such a wonderful Christmas and feel so blessed! We started the week off celebrating with my stepmom's side of the fam and our traditional white elephant gift exchange. We went to dinner with Andy's family for Christmas Eve after our service at church and then spent our first Christmas Eve night as "Santa" and got Mason's train table set up along with his other goodies. We woke up Christmas morning and were so excited to see Mason's face. He did not disappoint and was thrilled with his new table! We are not exactly sure where we are going to keep the thing, but for now, Mason is loving it down in the hearth room. We headed over to my family's later that morning and enjoyed a wonderful brunch before opening gifts. My grandparents came over and my dad read Luke chapter 2, and then we had lunch and spent some time just hanging out together. Next we headed over to the Garlich's. Andy's grandparents were there along with 2 of his uncles, one from Indiana, so we visited with them while all the kids napped. Once they woke up, it was present time! We had a great time watching everyone open their gifts and then enjoyed a wonderful meal together. Mason had such a fun time playing with his cousin, Ellie - it is so great watching them start to become "buddies."

This year I have really been thinking a lot about making sure my kids are fully aware of the true meaning of Christmas as they get older. It is hard not to get caught up in the gifts and business of Christmas, but I really hope that Andy and I can start traditions that emphasize the significance of Jesus's birth.

Here are some pictures!

Family Pictures

My friend Jen Shubin took these pictures of us over the last couple months while she was in town from Virginia. She is such a great photographer - check out her website here

My husband always finds the funniest things. This is one of his finds last Christmas with a new twist...

Thanksgiving

Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is already over and the Christmas season is in full swing. We had a nice Thanksgiving with both of our families and enjoyed 2 great meals! The Motley's gathered at my aunt and uncle's house and then we headed over to the Garlich's for round 2. It was strange without Ben (he is at Bible school in England) and Kaylie was also missing (she was at her other grandma's in Wichita). At Andy's family's house, we got to see his grandparents and 2 sets of aunts/uncles/cousins and celebrate Christmas with them as well. Mason had a great time playing with his cousins and Brody slept most of the day away:)

We spent most of the weekend getting our house ready for Christmas - mainly this means cleaning and reorganizing so that we can actually get the Christmas stuff out! Mason is very excited about our Christmas tree and although he does not want much to do with Santa, we are so excited to experience Christmas through his eyes this year. Andy and I have both found ourselves almost giddy thinking about his face on Christmas morning when he sees his new train table and train set (that we found on Craig's List!) and all the other goodies!

We went to Bass Pro Shop on Saturday because they were doing free pictures with Santa and other activities for kids. Mason didn't want to go anywhere near him so Brody was the only one to sit on Santa's lap this year.

Last night we were able to go to Andy's work Christmas Party. It was a nice evening of great food and fellowship. Thanks to Kim for watching the boys for us!

Election Day

Mason and Brody both participated in their first presidential election last week! The three of us walked up to MNU where we vote - Mason loved it (because he LOVES going for walks) and Brody cried the whole way there (later I figured out it was b/c he had a dirty diaper) and fell asleep while I was voting.

Happy Halloween!

Hard to believe Brody is already over one week old! We have had a great week hanging out at the house as a family of four! Since Andy has been able to be home, it has been great just spending time together with no schedules or places to be. Brody has been such a great baby (so far!) and Mason has been SO great with him. So far we have had no jealousy issues with him although I'm sure once Andy goes back yo the office, it may be different! Mason gives Brody about 40 kisses a day and seems fascinated with him - it is so cute! Tonight he even wanted to pray for him during his bedtime prayers:) We feel so blessed with our boys!

Brody James

He is here!! We got home from the hospital today after the past two days in the hospital. Everything went extremely well and we are just feeling so blessed today. I actually keep getting teary-eyed thinking about how much God has given me. As I was putting Mason to bed tonight, I was so overcome with the feeling of what an incredible gift God has given me in my two boys.

Brody James Garlich was born at 6:11pm on Monday evening. He weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. My labor was great - better than I could have asked for and compared to Mason's, it felt like a breeze! Brody looks a lot like Mason did, but there are definitely some differences and we are excited to see what his personality is going to be like! Here are some pictures of the last few days...

Mason's Party

We celebrated Mason's birthday a little early this year and had such a fun day! I tried not to go overboard, but sometimes I just can't help myself! I just love planning stuff like that and then putting it all together. Plus I knew how much fun he would have! He is obsessed with trucks, buses, trains, planes and anything else that makes noise and moves so of course he has been in heaven the past couple days with all of his new toys. It is so hard to believe he is turning 2. Here are some pics of the fun...

3 weeks and counting...

It is hard to believe that I am due in just 3 weeks! This pregnancy has just flown by. I am now to the point where I am just VERY excited to find out if its a boy or girl - of course both Andy and I have thought all along that it is another boy, but who knows! I am also very thankful that I have gained about half as much weight as last time around, I haven't really gotten swollen and my blood pressure is still normal (so far!).

Mason is sleeping in his big boy room, in his big boy bed which is such a blessing. The transition went really well. I am still planning to take pictures of his room to put on here, but every time I think of it, he is sleeping (like now!) Speaking of my sweet boy, here is a pic I took of him the other day - I know I am biased, but I think he is one handsome guy:) Can't believe he is going to be 2 in a couple weeks!

Branson with the Garlich's

We went down to the Big Cedar Lodge with Andy's parents and siblings last week. It was the first official Garlich vacation now that each Garlich boy is now married! We had such a great time - here are some pics of the trip...

Camp 2008

It is hard to believe another summer at camp has come to an end. It always seems to be a hard transition the first few weeks and then the last part of the summer just flies by and before we know it, it is over! I think this is the first summer that a small part of me is sad to see it end. Mason has loved camp so much these last few weeks and really seems to have grown a lot because of it. When I think back to how he was the first couple weeks, it is amazing to see how far he has come. For example, in the beginning, he was scared of being in Hype because of the loud music and kids yelling and dancing. Now, he gets bored in there when there is no music and he looks forward to doing the "ooooohh" cheer with the kids. He has made many friends and learned so many people's names - it really is incredible how much he remembers! Now don't get me wrong, I am very much looking forward to having things get back to normal (even if it is only for the next 8 weeks until the baby comes!) and not being a single-mom anymore! But it was a great summer out at camp and here are some of my favorite pictures...

Hopkins

I have always been fascinated by real-life medical shows and although Andy can't even stand to be in the same room when I am watching one, I am intrigued by watching surgeries and the inter-workings of the human body. So of course when I saw previews for a 6-part series on ABC called Hopkins, I knew I had to watch it. It is a look at some of the stories/doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Although the first couple episodes were good, the 4th and 5th ones really affected me. As a disclaimer, I know my mom/pregnancy hormones have something to do with it, but it is so much more than that. I have been awed by the resilience of the human body; I have been amazed by the technological advances that allows doctors to take a heart out of someone's body and place it in someone else's body within hours and begin beating. Most of all, I see the sovereignty of God at work.

An episode that aired last week on the 17th was particularly emotional for me. A 2 1/2 year-old little boy who had been perfectly healthy up to that point, was brought in with heart problems and within moments, the parents found out that he had little chance of survival without a heart transplant. They show this sweet little boy, lying on the stretcher, hooked up to all kinds of machines and crying for his mom - gut-wrenching to say the least. The raw emotion of his parents finding out this news was very difficult to watch and of course all I could picture was my sweet Mason which lost it for me!

I am reading the book, The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartian right now along with some other moms through my church and it has opened my eyes and encouraged me to be proactive in my children's lives through my prayers. We actually just read a chapter on health and praying for your children's health. I immediately thought of this chapter while watching the episode of Hopkins and it made me want to fall to my knees at that very moment and praise God for Mason's health. It also really puts into perspective the phrase that so many people say when they are pregnant that they just want a healthy baby and don't care if its a boy or girl - I never really understood this until I was pregnant with Mason and now again, I desire that again.

Anyway, just wanted to share some thoughts and leave you with one of my favorite passages from Psalm 139 which has always reminded me of the awesome power of God and my daily reminder of one of his greatest creations:)

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.

Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. [1]
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.

We had our 3D ultrasound today with baby #2. It was so fun to watch the baby moving around and we got some great pictures! Here are a few...
